SALISBURY, Md. - James M. Bennett High School Principal Amy Eskridge has been charged on criminal summons with "prevention or interference with a report of suspected abuse or neglect," according to court records.

Eskridge has been placed on administrative leave, according to Wicomico County Superintendent of Schools Donna Hanlin.

The charge filed against Eskridge is a misdemeanor that could result in five years imprisonment or a fine of up to $10,000 if convicted. Eskridge is set to appear in court on March 15 for an initial appearance.

The charge comes after

last month's arrest of 32-year-old Allen Mitchell

, a guidance counselor at James M. Bennett High School, who was charged for having inappropriate sexual relationships with students. He faces 15 sex crimes, including second-degree rape. Mitchell is also on administrative leave. He was indicted on Feb. 4 and is scheduled for trial in June. The news about Eskridge comes a day after Wicomico County Public Schools

named James M. Bennett High's assistant principal Erin Nathan as acting principal

.

Vera Reed, an assistant principal at Bennett Middle School, will take over Nathan's position as assistant principal.

Also at James M. Bennett High, Keith Bailey will continue in his role as assistant principal, Jason Capobianco will continue in his role as dean of students, and Brent Lewis will continue in his role as acting dean of students.
