Sixth Grader From Salisbury Wins Spelling Bee

MARYLAND- A sixth grader from Salisbury has won the 2019 Maryland Eastern Shore Regional Spelling Bee.

12-year-old Austin Loar of Salisbury Middle School will now represent the Lower Shore at the Scripps National Spelling Bee at the end of May in Washington, D.C.

Out of 24 contestants, Loar placed first. The runner up was fourth grader Praneeth Galigutte of Delmar Elementary School.

Loar's final word? Beachhead.
