WORCESTER COUNTY, Md.- Some Worcester County residents are pushing for a second early voting site in Pocomoke City.

Currently, the county's only early voting site is located at the Gull Creek Senior Living Community in Berlin.

Joan Roache is a co-founder of "Your Vote, Your Voice," a non-partisan group focused on voter registration that started a petition for a second early voting site.

"As we were doing the early registration, we realized how inconvenient the early voting at Gull Creek is for many people," said Roache.

Roache said it can take about 30 minutes to get to Gull Creek from the south end of the county. She also said limited public transportation poses an inconvenience as well.

Vice President of the Worcester County Commissioners Joe Mitrecic says commissioners take the concerns seriously. However, he said there is a lot that goes into setting up an early voting site and will cost tax-payers.

"Voting machines. Monitoring it. Election judges. It's been estimated at over $100,000, and we don't know what kind of turn-out we're going to get," said Mitrecic.

Mitrecic said commissioners are waiting on final numbers from the Board of Elections and will re-visit the issue.

Mitrecic said there are other options to consider as well, like voter shuttle service.
