State Police: Fake Grenade Found at Vacant Dorchester County Home

Posted: Updated:

HURLOCK, Md. - Maryland State Police said troopers investigated and cleared reports of a grenade that was found at a vacant home in Dorchester County.

According to state police, troopers responded to a home on the 4700 block of Skeet Club Road around 2:45 p.m.

A home inspector was at the vacant property working on an inspection when they spotted something that appeared to be a possible grenade near the carport of the home, police said.

The inspector's 9-1-1 call brought in state police, who closed the road and secured a perimeter around the house. Police also evacuated nearby homes while alerting others to stay indoors.

A bomb technician from the Office of the State Fire Marshal arrived on scene and conducted diagnostic testing. Authorities discovered that the grenade-like object was made of plastic, like a toy, and was inactive. MSP deemed that there was no danger to the community.

In the process, MSP said they alerted the Maryland State Board of Education along with Delmarva Power  about the incident.
