One Seriously Injured in Dover Car Crash Involving a Bicyclist

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. - Delaware State Police said one person has been seriously injured in a car accident that involved a bicycle Thursday night.

It happened in the area of Forest Avenue, or Route 8, and Victory Chapel Road shortly after 9:15 p.m.

According to DSP, a 56-year-old Hartly woman was driving west down Forest Avenue when she hit a 59-year-old Hartly man riding a bicycle in the same direction.

State police said the bicyclist was thrown off his bike to the pavement. He was taken to Kent General with serious injuries. Police said that impairment on his behalf is not yet determined at this time.

The driver stopped her car and remained on scene. State police said she wasn't injured in the incident. DSP also said they are not considering impairment on her behalf to be a contributing factor to the crash.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with more information about the crash is asked to call Cpl. R. Bryant at Troop 3 at 302-697-4454.
