Community College in Melfa Gets New Academic Building

Posted: Updated:

MELFA, Va.- College students in Accomack County will soon walk into a brand new academic building. The building is the latest addition to the Eastern Shore Community College in Melfa.

Crew members have been working hard, finishing the campus' new building.

"For the Eastern Shore, it's definitely a state-of-the-art," says building inspector Joe Habel.

Students and faculty members say it's time for an upgrade on campus and the new building will help play a part in doing that.

"It gives people a chance to see the Eastern Shore. We have this new building, that will make the college better.  The technology will allow us to have better research," says Kentrell Walker, an instructor at ESCC.

Dr. Billy Greer, the interim president of ESCC, says the $12 million facility serves as a key reflection of education.

"We are really hopeful that it is going to do some big things for us," says Greer.

The new building will open by the start of the fall semester.
