Sussex County's Newest Boardwalk Now Open

Posted: Updated:

SLAUGHTER BEACH, Del. - Sussex County's newest boardwalk is now open, and it's not on the ocean.

It's the 109-acre Marvel Salt Marsh Preserve in Slaughter Beach. The boardwalk includes binoculars and a location for dip netting.

A number of Delaware's elected officials opened the boardwalk Friday morning. The project has been years in the making and was paid for in part by transportation funds.

Milford Elementary schoolers are already making good use of the new attraction.

"This is awesome. We get to experience own animals, creatures, and any type of fish, turtle and whatever animals that are in this swamp," first grader Cooper Brannan of Milford said.

In addition to educational programs, DelDot says the boardwalk will help promote Delaware's Bayshore Byway, and encourage ecotourism in Slaughter Beach.
