FREDERICA, Del. - Delaware State Police said they're investigating an armed robbery that happened at a Valero gas station Saturday night.

Troopers responded to a hold up alarm around 10:30 p.m. at the gas station on Bay Road. According to DSP, an employee was trying to close for the night and locking the store's door when he was approached by three masked men with handguns.

The victim told state police the men forced their way inside and demanded money from the store's safe. DSP said the employee couldn't open the safe, and the employee was hit with the handle of a gun after a struggle ensued.

State police said the employee was able to activate the alarm, but the three masked men took off with several tobacco products.

The employee was treated on scene by emergency responders for a minor injury.

DSP said they believe the group consisted of one white man and two black men, but police don't have surveillance photos at this time.

Anyone with more information about the incident is encouraged to call Troop 3 Criminal Investigations Unit, Detective K. Baker at 302-698-8435, or Delaware crime stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
