State Police Divers Search Silver Lake in Dover

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. --- State police divers on Wednesday searched a section of Silver Lake in Dover in an effort to assist an investigation by Dover law enforcement, according to city police.

Cpl. Mark Hoffman, a Dover police spokesman, would not comment on what exactly the troopers were searching for but noted they were assisting with a search for evidence in an area of Silver Lake at the intersection of Park Drive and Division Street.

The divers could be seen Wednesday morning swimming in the lake and carried what appeared to be metal detectors as they probed the area.

Safety around Silver Lake has recently been the focus of city officials following the discovery earlier this year of a Wesley College student's body. The incident prompted a Dover councilman to ask for the closure of Silver Lake Park amid safety concerns after several bodies had been found in the area around the lake in recent years.

Dover police said cameras would be installed at an entrance to the park and inside the recreational area.
