South Bethany Police Recruits Temporary Help

Posted: Updated:

SOUTH BETHANY, Del. - South Bethany's Police Department will receive more police assistance from neighboring departments as their force is now down to three.

Delaware State Police troopers are covering Route 1 for the town. South Bethany is also planning to enter a police-service agreement with Fenwick Island.

Additionally, the town recently approved a similar coverage plan with Ocean View's police force and hired a public safety consultant.

Mayor Tim Saxton says while the moves are temporary, they are much appreciated.

"the partnering, I mean there was never the word 'no'," Saxton said. In anything that we did and whoever we talked to, they all were, 'how can we help you'. And, I think that I guess the best way of saying it is a town of need found a group of people that really understood the issues."

Saxton says the extra coverage will stop once the police force is fully staffed.
