DOVER, Del.- A decline in blood donors has lowered blood bank supplies to dangerous levels on Delmarva.
The Blood Bank of Delmarva likes to have a five to seven day supply, but representatives with the blood bank say they're down to a one or two day supply of O-negative and O-positive blood.
The blood bank says nice weather could be keeping donors away, but as Delmarva get busier this summer, the supply will be even more critical.
"I've been a part of the fire company for 35 years. I've seen a lot of accidents, a lot of trauma," frequent blood donor John Price of Churchill, Maryland, said. "I mean there's a need, somebody's got to help. It just doesn't happen by itself. People need to step up."
The Blood Bank of Delmarva says it needs platelets, as well.
Those interesting in donating can visit the Blood Bank of Delmarva locations in Salisbury or Dover or find a blood drive on their website.
