Churchgoers on Delmarva Observe Good Friday

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - Good Friday is one of the most somber days for Catholics and Christians all over the world. Here on Delmarva, churches across the peninsula commemorated the passion of Christ.

In Salisbury, churchgoers honored the crucifixion and death of Jesus with a special service at St. Francis de Sales Friday. The prayer service is one of several different services the church will offer throughout this holy weekend.

In Seaford, believers also remembered Jesus' journey to the cross. The rain and the wind didn't stop churchgoers that dressed as biblical characters and re-enacted the 14 stations of the cross, that ends when Jesus' body is placed in the tomb.

For many, the re-enactment is a tradition that makes their faith stronger.

"It's a tradition in our family," says Yoselin Martinez of Seaford. "It makes me feel like if I was actually there on that day to see him die and it feels really special for like me to recreate that actual moment," she adds.

As Christians observed Good Friday in preparation for Easter, the day is also the first day of Passover. The eight day long Jewish holiday begins at sundown.
