HOUSTON, Del. - A Houston man is facing assault and burglary charges after he allegedly broke into a home and assaulted his girlfriend.

It happened shortly before 11:30 p.m. Thursday at a home on the 1200 block of Pine Street. According to Delaware State Police, the homeowner said her two grandchildren were sleeping over for the night when she woke up to her granddaughter screaming and a window shattering.

Then, police said 18-year-old Dontreze McDonald, of Houston, kicked in the bathroom door and took it off by its hinges. McDonald then allegedly assaulted his 15-year-old girlfriend before taking off.

The victim suffered minor injuries that didn't require medical treatment. Another child was home at the time, but not injured in the incident.

DSP said they found McDonald later at his home and he was charged with burglary and assault, among others. He was arraigned and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $7,100.00 secured bond.
