New License Suspension Bill In Delaware

Posted: Updated:

DELAWARE - Getting caught driving in Delaware without proof of insurance might not result in your license getting suspended.

Delaware lawmakers have passed a bill getting rid of that automatic suspension, which could happen if you get caught by police without a valid proof of insurance and don't actually have insurance. The chief sponsor on the bill, Rep. Bill Carson, says it was a smart idea that could keep drivers from having bigger problems.

"People will still be able to get it straightened out and they won't lose their job or their automobile, that sort of thing."

Delaware's DMV will still suspend vehicle registrations based on the offense, but getting rid of the automatic license suspension will allow drivers to get the insurance they need for their car.
