Traffic Stop Leads to Discovery of 279 Baggies of Heroin, Marijuana

DAGSBORO, De.- Delaware State Police charged a Laurel man with multiple drug-related offenses following a traffic stop Friday afternoon.

A trooper say a gray car run a stop sign at the intersection of E. Diamond St. and Power Plant Rd. in Dagsboro. The trooper initiated the stop with 24-year-old Devontay Jones of Laurel.

Upon contact, the trooper smelled an odor of marijuana coming from inside the car. A search of Jones' and his car revealed 279 bags of heroin, 1.38 grams of marijuana, and $1,771 in suspected drug proceeds.

Jones was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance in a tier one quantity, maintaining a drug property, tampering with physical evidence, three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and failure to stop at a stop sign.

Jones was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $35,500 secured bail.
