Churches Send Up Prayers For Tornado Victims on Easter

Posted: Updated:

LAUREL, De-Families are continuing to recover from the recent tornado that ripped through homes in parts of Laurel and Seaford.

But that did not stop neighbors in Sussex County today from praying for families affected during their Easter services.

That includes members of Laurel Nazarene Church. John Jones, a member said, "We're just thankful that no one was really hurt. A lot of things were lost but they can be replaced."

Today, Laurel Nazarene sang--sent up prayers--and included the tornado victims in their Easter Sunday message.

Pastor David Seymour said there were even donations collected earlier in the week to help families recover.

"Having not experienced the loss of life, you know everything else can be replaced. I've heard so many already talking about how thankful they are in spite of their losses."

Prayers for recovery were also happening at Centenary United Methodist Church in Laurel.

Their pastor Dean Perdue said there were even a few members of their church affected by the devastating tornado.

"The message of Easter is a message of new beginnings," he said. The United Methodist Committee on Relief is doing a relief effort here, and there will be crew workers that will be staying in Laurel this next week to help the victims."
