SALISBURY, Md.- Maryland State Police said a Salisbury man is facing DUI charges after he was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run accident that injured three people Saturday night.

It happened in the area of Route 13 and Oliphant Drive shortly before 9:15 p.m.

According to state police, a pick-up truck was traveling south on Route 13 when the driver made a left turn directly in front of a car and the two collided. When MSP arrived on scene, witnesses told police the driver of the pick-up truck took off. However, witnesses were able to provide troopers with a vehicle description and tag number. Police also said another witness called them after they saw the same pick-up truck drive into a shopping center parking lot near the scene of the collision.

State police found the pick-up and its driver, identified as Jose David Franciso-Mateo, 32, of Salisbury.

MSP said troopers smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from both the driver and the truck. Police said Franciso-Mateo performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Witnesses also confirmed Franciso-Mateo was the driver involved in the crash.

Franciso-Mateo was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and other traffic-related offenses.

Three people were inside the car at the time of the crash -- two adults and a 5-year-old girl. MSP said they suffered minor injuries. They were all treated and released from PRMC.

Franciso-Mateo wasn't injured. He was released to the custody of the Wicomico County Detention Center for processing before a court commissioner.
