Rehoboth Beach Receives Matching Grant Funding for Stormwater Study

Posted: Updated:

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- Rehoboth Beach is receiving over $27,000 in a matching fund grant to help identify what caused an increase in stormwater bacteria last year.

The stormwater is discharged into the Atlantic Ocean and other bodies of water in Rehoboth. The city's contribution to this plan has paid for a study that is currently underway.

"We would hope that we get the study done this summer, give us some recommendations that we can implement over the winter season, and have in place for next summer," Kevin Williams, director of public works for Rehoboth Beach, said.

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control measures the bacteria in the ocean water multiple times a week. Despite the increase in levels last year, it was not high enough to force the beaches to be closed in Rehoboth.
