PARKSLEY, Va.- A community is still in shock after police found two bodies inside of a house in Parksley on Monday.
The victims were identified as Juan Benjamin Lopez, 48, and Irma Castellanos, 52.
"We can't believe this happened," says David Gramajo, son-in-law of the victims.
According to the police, deputies discovered the bodies of Lopez and Castellanos, lying in the living room floor suffering from apparent stab wounds. They were both pronounced deceased at the scene.
"We didn't expect this at all, just last Sunday we all got together and now they're gone," adds Gramajo.
On Tuesday, detectives met with the family to continue the investigation.
The community is also saddened by a second loss in just months. In February, three family members were found dead in a Nelsonia house fire that was later ruled arson. Police continue to investigate this first incident as a homicide.
Authorities have not said if the two incidents are connected but many in the community can't believe this is happening, again, so close to home.
"This has always been a pretty safe and quiet community and we're so surprised to see all of this happening," says Adriana Sarmiento, who has lived in Accomack County for 15 years.
