PARKSLEY, Va.- Authorities are investigating as an apparent murder-suicide the stabbing deaths of a man and woman whose bodies were found inside an Accomack County home earlier this week.

According to Sheriff Todd E. Godwin, at around 2:30 a.m. Monday, May 6, deputies responded to a home at 19227 Lankford Highway in Parksley.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they discovered the bodies of Juan Benjamin Lopez Mazariegos, 48, and Irma Orfilia Castillinos Laparra, 52, lying in the living room floor with apparent stab wounds. Mazariegos and Laparra were both pronounced deceased at the scene.

On May 7, the bodies of Mazariegos and Laparra were sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Norfolk, where an autopsy was performed. It was determined that Laparra died from apparent stab wounds and Mazariegos died from self-inflicted stab wounds.

This incident appears to be a murder suicide; however, a final disposition is
pending the medical examiner’s report and the results of additional lab
examinations.

The Accomack County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Virginia State Police.

Anyone with information on this or any other crime is asked to contact the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office at 757-787-1131 or 757-824-5666.
