Fourth Suspect Arrested in Sussex County Drug Trafficking Investigation

BEAR, Del. - The Delaware State Police have made a fourth arrest in connection with a drug trafficking investigation in Sussex County..

Around 2 p.m. Tuesday, the New Castle County Governor’s Task Force was conducting patrols in the area of Route 13 and Beaver Brook in Bear and stopped a red Mercedes for reportedly for following a vehicle too closely. 

According to the DSP, officers identified the driver as Reginald L. Sample, 49, of Seaford who had an active warrant for his arrest out of Sussex County. 

Sample was taken into custody without incident.  A subsequent search of Sample’s vehicle led to the recovery of 100 grams of cocaine, according to police.

Sample was transported back to Troop 2 where he was charged with his original charges and additional charges including:

  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a controlled substance in a Tier 4 quantity (5 counts)
  • Possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 5 quantity (5 counts)
  • Possession of a Firearm By a Person Prohibited (3 counts)
  • Receiving Stolen Firearm
  • Conspiracy 2nd
  • Following a Vehicle Too Closely

Sample was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $176000.00 secured bond on his original charges and $40,100 cash only on his additional charges.
