Memorial Day Travel: When to Head Out

Posted: Updated:

DELMARVA- Traffic may seem inevitable heading into Memorial Day weekend but travel officials say some times are better than others.

According to a tweet from the Maryland Department of Transportation Authority, over 340,000 motorists are expected to cross the Bay Bridge over the weekend. If you plan to travel Thursday and Friday, they suggest to travel before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.

On Saturday, they suggest to hit the bridge earlier, saying peak travel times are between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

On Sunday and Monday, Memorial Day, MDTA again suggests you travel before 10 a.m. but after 10 p.m.

And the Delaware Department of Transportation encourages drivers in the First State to always drive safe. According to a tweet Thursday, drivers should follow some basics rules: always wear your seat belt, never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol, obey speed limits, don't drive distracted, and avoid driving aggressively.

Memorial Day weekend is from May 24 to May 27.
