PITTSVILLE, Md.- A driver has been charged with negligent driving after his tractor-trailer hauling frozen chicken drifted off the road and caught fire Thursday night in Pittsville.

Maryland State Police said it happened shortly before 8 p.m. in the area of Gumboro Road at Tingle Road. When troopers arrived on the scene, they observed a tractor-trailer had run off the roadway and caught fire. The driver was not injured and he got away from the vehicle before it had caught fire.

The tractor-trailer was hauling frozen packaged chicken. The driver drifted off the right side of the roadway, leaving the roadway and causing the vehicle to become disabled and catch fire.

Police said the driver, identified as Timothy Lee Morrisey, suffered no injures.

Fire and EMS responded to the scene along with SHA units for traffic control. Gumboro Road was shut down in the area of Tingle Road.

Environmental services responded to assist with the clean-up of the fuel from the truck-tractor.
