DOVER, Del. --- After defendant was fully acquitted, he head of Delaware's correctional officer union says the state should consider not pursuing the two remaining cases tied to the deadly 2017 inmate uprising at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna.

Geoff Klopp, president of the Correctional Officers Association of Delaware, said members of the union frustrated that Roman Shankaras, one of numerous inmates charged with murder and other offenses in connection to the riot, was found not guilty on Thursday by a jury.

The event saw a counselor and correctional officers taken hostage by inmates who had seized a building at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center. One of the officers, Steven Floyd, was found dead when law enforcement finally stormed the building.

"We went into this whole process hoping to get answers, we didn't think that we would find out who killed Steve Floyd, but we felt like we'd be holding someone accountable."

So far only one inmate has been convicted of murder charges. Prosecutors have dropped cases against many of the inmates.
