Salisbury Middle School Student Heads to Round 3 in Scripps National Spelling Bee

Austin Loar

WASHINGTON, D.C.- A Salisbury Middle School student is heading into round three of the Scripps National Spelling Bee in the nation's capital.

Twelve-year-old Austin Loar is contestant number 138 in this year's National Bee. This comes after beating out 23 other contestants in the Maryland Eastern Shore Regional Spelling Bee back in March. He then made it through the first preliminary rounds at the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Austin and the other 500-plus competitors took a screening test Monday. Later Wednesday, National Bee organizers will announce which students did well enough on that test to move on to the next level of competition.

You can catch round three on ESPN3 or the ESPN App.

Good luck Austin!
