DE Legislation Aims to Create New Clean Water Fund

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. --- Delaware lawmakers are again looking at creating a clean water fund, though a proposal unveiled on Thursday would not require new revenue and instead set aside money in the budget each year for the cause.

House Bill 200 would set aside $25 million in tax revenue for the fund each year, would be used to fund water infrastructure projects addressing water quality and limiting stormwater runoff.

Unlike a previous proposal it would not rely on collected new revenue for the fund by levying a surcharge on tax filings or business licenses.

State officials estimate wastewater runoff and water quality issues would require hundreds of thousands of dollars of investment.
