DOVER, Del. --- Environmentalists and Democratic lawmakers on Wednesday participated in a rally calling for the passage of legislation that would set aside at least $25 million a year for a new clean water fund.

The rally took place shortly House Bill 200 was advanced by a committee for a full vote by the state House of Representatives.

The legislation would set aside money collected from the state's revenue streams for a clean water fund that would be used to invest in water quality and infrastructure projects around the state to improve the condition of things like drinking water or how wastewater is treated.

The state estimates some $500 million in water and wastewater system upgrades are needed around the state.
