High School Students Help Change the Life of a Young Girl With Disability

Posted: Updated:

VIRGINIA (WBOC/CBS)- High school students in northern Virginia came together to build a new bow, allowing her to pursue her passion in music.

Ten-year-old Allison Rafailan Serrano used to struggle playing the violin. This is because her right arm is short than her left; her hand also only has two fingers. Allison said, "I couldn't do long bow and it kept falling off my hands.

But a group of high school students helped Allison gain better control of her bow by designing a special prosthetic. The team used a 3D printer, then shaped the box just for the fourth grader. Allison now says the tool "actually helps me do a long bow and it's not falling off and stuff."

The custom prosthetic may have been a part of a class project but the Virginia students certainly made a difference in Allison's life.
