SALISBURY, Md.- Salisbury police say a 12-year-old boy is recovering after his older brother stabbed him with a kitchen knife during an argument.

The incident reportedly happened at around 9 a.m. Tuesday at an apartment on the 100 block of Ocean Aisle.

According to police, a  15-year-old boy and his 12-year-old brother were home alone when they got into an argument over an undisclosed family matter. Police said the argument quickly escalated into a fist fight. Investigators said that is when the 15-year-old picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed his brother in the upper leg area.

Police said the fight continued outside onto the third floor landing and neighbors began calling 911. As multiple officers began arriving, they were immediately encountered by the 15-year-old as well as the 12-year-old, who police said happened to be in possession of a sheathed machete.

Both boys were immediately detained by officers without further incident.

Salisbury EMS arrived and transported the 12-year-old to Peninsula Regional where he was treated for a serious but non-life-threatening injury to his upper leg and later released.

After consultation with the Department of Juvenile Justice, the 15-year-old was transported to and held at the Lower Eastern Shore Children's Center.
