Community Center in Easton is Expanding

Posted: Updated:

EASTON, Md.- The Chesapeake Multicultural Resource Center in Easton is expanding. The center bought three properties on Dover Street, just steps away from the community it serves.

"ChesMRC recently was able to acquire a permanent new building at 331/333 E. Dover Street in the East End Neighborhood of Easton, one of the most diverse and ethnically rich areas of the Eastern Shore, to serve as our new headquarters and Community Center," said Matthew Petters, head of the community center, in a statement.

The $595,000 investment was necessary to cover the increasing demand for services from the growing immigrant community, according to Estela Ramirez, assistant director of ChesMRC.

"We outgrew our current office," says Ramirez. "Now we will be able to better accommodate the needs of our clients."

The transition is starting now, and Ramirez says they hope to have their office up and running in the new location this August.

"We're not taking a break, we'll keep offering our services through this process," she adds. "We'll move everything out from our old offices in the weekend, we're not gonna stop, we're gonna keep going."

The new site is still in need of some renovations, ChesMRC is now running a campaign to collect the funds needed to complete the process.
