Man Sentenced for Raping Landlady, Killing Man with Hammer

Posted: Updated:
GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP/WBOC)- A Delaware man has been sentenced to 67 years in prison for sexually assaulting his landlady and beating a man to death with a hammer.

Twenty-five-year-old Juan Carlos Tovar Cruz, of Georgetown, was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty in January to second-degree murder, first-degree rape, second-degree rape, assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Cruz was arrested in October 2016 after police responded to the 14000 block of Wilson Hill Road in Georgetown for a report of an injured woman. The 40-year-old woman had fled to a neighbor's home after being attacked. Authorities said she suffered several cuts and a broken arm.

Troopers subsequently found the body of 30-year-old Ricardo Perez-Ramirez in the driveway of the woman's home. Investigators say Perez-Ramirez died of blunt force trauma.
