Several New Businesses Open In Seaford

Posted: Updated:

SEAFORD, Del.- Fireworks aren't the only thing booming in Seaford; so are new businesses.

According to city leaders, nearly a dozen new businesses are being constructed, renovated, re-opened or are opening for the first time.

And all of it, it seems, has happened within the past couple of months.

This includes the construction of a Chick-Fil-A, a Starbucks, the re-opening of a McDonald's on Route 13, Every Fiber Coffee located downtown, a Planet Fitness and much more.

Many people who live locally are excited to see the new changes come to Seaford.

"Seaford, years ago, was very much the busy town with the DuPont plant so to have that leave and now see new businesses coming in, to see Planet Fitness here, it's a great opportunity," Jvonne Oliver, who lives nearby said.

Robert Jefferson says he's excited that new businesses are coming, because that means more diverse jobs.

"Sussex County is known for chicken plants, but a lot of people want different jobs and it's a wider band of careers for people. It's helpful," he said.

City Councilman James King Sr. says there has been a lot that has gone into revitalizing the downtown area--including organizations like the Downtown Seaford Association and Seaford Tomorrow holding seminars and informing entrepreneurs of grants for smaller businesses.

But overall, it has been a collaboration, between the city, organizations, and one business leader inspiring another.

"The city leadership is focused on continuing all these positive trends and the momentum is infectious, thus we continue to see new businesses coming to Seaford," he said. "The city leadership continues to be a resource ready to answer questions or to help support entrepreneurship in Seaford."
