Celebrating Freedom With Cambridge's Historic Flag House

CAMBRIDGE, Md.- On Independence Day, many people place American flags in front of their homes. But one man in Cambridge went all in, by putting the flag all over his house. Its called the Flag House.

Carly Mazzone is a tenant at the historic house, built sometime during the 1910s.

"My sister when I first moved here was like 'Are you kidding me? You're really going to live in this house?"' Mazzone said. "People just see it...and it's just priceless."

For visitors, the Cambridge home can be hard to miss bearing its broad stripes and its 45 bright stars, representing the 45 states at the time it was built.

Owner Branden Spear first thought of the idea one July 4th weekend nearly a decade ago, frustrated with Cambridge's Historic Preservation Commission that wanted to the house historically accurate.

"You should be able to fix your property affordably and that was the issue," Spear said. "I said 'You know what, I'll give you exactly what you want, I'll give you tourism, I'll make it historically accurate,' and I think I did quite well."

Spear says he plans on doing some more work on the Flag House later this year.
