Man Arrested Following Spree of Robberies at Shore Stop in Dover

DOVER, Del. - Delaware State Police said troopers arrested a Camden-Wyoming man Thursday for his alleged involvement in a string of robberies at the same convenience store.

Thirty-five-year-old Jerry W. McGinnis Jr. is facing robbery and weapons charges. Police said it stems from three robberies that happened at the Shore Stop on South State Street. Police said that in each of the incidents, the suspect walked into the business with a large knife and demanded cash from the clerks. The suspect would then take off with the money. No was was injured in any of the robberies.

On Thursday, police said troopers had been conducting surveillance at the store when they noticed someone come out of a wooded area with his hands and face covered. Troopers spoke with the suspect and ordered them to get on the ground, but police said the suspect took off and resisted arrest.

Police said troopers were able to catch and arrest the suspect. They also recovered a large knife at the scene. 

The suspect was then identified as McGinnis. He was taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries he sustained. McGinnis was then arraigned and committed to the Department of Correction in default of a $214,500 cash bond.
