Oxford Remembers Community Leader Edie Beglin

Posted: Updated:

OXFORD, Md. - A Talbot County community continues to mourn the loss of one of their own. On Monday, 71 year-old Edith 'Edie' Beglin of Oxford was hit and killed by a car while she tried crossing a road. On Saturday, Beglin's family and friends remembered her in a celebration of life, procession, and memorial.

Oxford Fire Company President Timothy Kearns remembers Beglin as an active volunteer, churchgoer, and grandmother.

"She was a light," Kearns said. "It's been very difficult. We've lost one of ours."

Beglin served as the Oxford Auxiliary Fire Company's President. Kearns says she led with her gentle nature and will to help others.

"She was always walking out and seeing townspeople and giving people a smile," Kearns said. "She was very special in the subtle way in which she led the company."

The Talbot County Sheriff's Office is continuing its investigation into the crash that led to Beglin's death.

Beglin's family is asking any contributions made in her name go to the Oxford Fire Company and the Oxford Library - two places where Beglin actively volunteered.
