SALISBURY, Md.- Crews returned to Main Street in downtown Salisbury early Monday morning with road closed signs in hand, as construction continues on the improvement project.

The Main Street improvement project is replacing water mains and sewer drains, as well as beautifying the area.

Crews will install brick crosswalks at several intersections along the road.

As part of that work, road closures will take effect at Poplar Hill Avenue, Court Street, and Baptist Street beginning this week.

Mayor Jake Day said this work should be complete in July.

Also starting this week, drivers can expect intermittent closures at the intersection of North Division Street as the next phase of work begins.

"I think it will hinder a lot of things. I feel like a lot of people work downtown, and it's just more of a hassle for them to get to their jobs," said neighbor Ross Douglas.

Day said work at the North Division Street intersection should be done by the National Folk Festival in September.

The Main Street project also includes improvements to the Downtown Plaza and the section of North Division Street from Main Street to Route 50.

Day said the entire project is on track to be complete by the end of 2020.
