MELFA, Va.- Elizabeth Lankford on Thursday announced that she is running for election in Virginia’s 6th Senate District. Lankford is a Republican challenging incumbent Democratic Sen. Lynwood Lewis.

Lankford, an Eastern Shore native, graduated from James Madison University and lived in Washington, D.C, before returning to the Eastern Shore.

In 2016, Lankford had an opportunity to run her own business and purchased the Blue Crab Bay Company in Melfa. As a businesswoman, Lankford said she has seen the impact of needless government regulations on small businesses.

“I’m running for Senate because it is time for the 6th district to be represented by someone who is a problem solver and can bring a fresh outlook to Richmond,” Lankford said.

The 6th Senate District includes both Accomack and Northampton counties on the Eastern Shore.
