Middle School Teacher in Harrington Faces Sex Charges for Touching Students

Posted: Updated:

HARRINGTON, Del.- Harrington police say a middle school teacher is facing sex charges in connection with incidents involving several students.

According to police, Richard C. Ford, 63, of Felton, was arrested for unlawful sexual contact and related charges.

Police say during the month of January officers were contacted by a parent who alleged that her daughter had been inappropriately touched by Ford at WT Chipman Middle School during a fitness class.

An investigation was conducted by the Harrington Police Department with the assistance of the Child Advocacy Center and the Department of Justice, according to police.

Investigators reported discovering two additional victims, ages 11 and 12, who were also students in Ford’s class.

Ford turned himself in to the Harrington Police Department on Friday and was charged with two counts of Unlawful Sexual Contact where Victim is under 13, two counts of second-degree Sexual Abuse of a Child by Person of Trust, and one count of Offensive Touching.

He was arraigned by video phone at Justice of the Peace Court 2 in Lewes.

Ford was issued a $10,100 unsecured bond and no contact orders with the victims and released pending a future court appearance, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with any information is urged to contact the Harrington Police Department at 302-398-4493, ext. 46.
