BERLIN, Md.- The Berlin Electric Department is asking customers to voluntarily limit energy usage this week due to extreme heat.

The electric department is asking residents to conserve energy usage between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. starting Monday, July 15, through Friday, July 19.

Berlin Electric calls it the Tweak Our Peak program, and says it helps customers and Berlin Electric save money.

Peak times are when Berlin Electric is purchasing wholesale power at the highest prices.

By cutting back on the amount of wholesale power purchased during these peak, high-priced periods, Berlin Electric can reduce its total wholesale power costs.

Reductions in wholesale power costs are passed through to the customers in their monthly bills in the Power Cost Adjustment (PCA).

Berlin Electric say customers can save money by delaying the usage of major appliance such as dishwashers, washing machines and clothes dryers.

Other important steps customers can take to lower their electric bills include delaying the use of hot water, closing window shades, and adjusting thermostats up three degrees during these peak times.

For more energy saving tips, visit the Berlin Electric Utility website.
