Chestertown Home Heavily Damaged by Fire

CHESTERTOWN, Md.- The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a weekend fire that heavily damaged a Kent County home.

According to the fire marshal's office, the fire was reported shortly after midnight Saturday morning at the home at 8561 Georgetown Road in Chestertown.

The Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company responded and had the fire under control in about an hour.

Damage to the single story home and its contents is estimated to be about $160,000.

Fire officials say the home had a smoke alarm present but it was not known whether it activated.

Investigators say the fire started in the home's interior but they have not yet determined the cause.
