Four Arrested After Two-state Police Chase That Ended in Bridgeville

BRIDGEVILLE, Del.- Authorities say four people are facing charges after they led police on a chase that started in Maryland and ended in Bridgeville. 

Delaware State Police said the incident occurred at around 6:35 a.m. Sunday, July 14, when troopers were made aware that Maryland State Police were in pursuit of a stolen Honda Civic that had fled into Delaware.  The car was subsequently located in Delaware traveling northbound on Dupont Boulevard in the area of Patriots Way.  An attempt was made to stop the vehicle, which police said continued to drive recklessly and flee from police.

The vehicle came to a stop on Sussex Highway and Cider Lane, when a passenger got out and proceeded to run away, according to police. A foot pursuit ensued with the passenger, identified as a 16-year-old Clinton, Md. boy, when he struck a Bridgeville K-9 in an attempt to resist being taken into custody.  The teen was subsequently taken into custody.

The vehicle continued to flee and was later located unoccupied on Walnut Street in Bridgeville.  A concerned citizen had reported seeing occupants flee from the vehicle and enter a detached shed on a property.  Troopers located three people hiding in the shed and took them into custody without further incident.  The three suspects were identified as the driver, a 16-year-old Lenham, Md., boy, a 16-year-old girl, also of Lenham, Md., and 19-year-old Wilfredo N. Rodriguez, of College Park, Md. 

All of the suspects were transported back to Troop 5 where all four were charged with resisting arrest. Three of the suspects were also charged with burglary and related offenses.
