CHURCH CREEK, Md.- An argument over a lawn mower escalated into gunfire Monday, leading to attempted murder and related charges for a Dorchester County man, authorities said.

The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office said that deputies were called to 3041 Lakesville Road on Monday for a reported assault.

When deputies arrived on the scene they were told Joseph Danny Baker, 23, had become involved in an argument with another man who had come to retrieve the mower.

The Sheriff's Office said that according to witnesses, the argument turned into a physical altercation and Baker allegedly went inside of the home and got a shotgun.

Baker then fired the shotgun in the air near the victim and three other people who retreated to their vehicle and tried to leave, according to authorities.

As they were driving away, deputies say Baker fired the weapon a second time, this time striking the vehicle on the passenger side while the four victims were inside. No one was hurt.

Baker has been charged with four counts of first-degree assault, four counts of second-degree assault, four counts of attempted first-degree murder, four counts of attempted second-degree murder, four counts of wearing and carrying a dangerous weapon with the Intent to do harm, four counts of reckless endangerment and malicious destruction of property over $500.

Baker was ordered held without bond.
