Vienna Gets Grant, Chance to Update Water System

Posted: Updated:

VIENNA, Md. - The Town of Vienna's got some big dreams ahead with plans to get some additional help to improve its water system.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture awarded the town $25,000 to improve its water settlement pond. The money will first fund engineering and environmental studies, and the rest to redo the pond itself.

The town's latest makeover includes a new paint job for its iconic water tower, including not only work on the outside of its tower but on the inside too.

Town Councilman Greg Cusick says the town has a well of other ideas to improve their water system. Thanks to the $25,000 grant, Cusick says they'll now have money to rework their settlement pond and consider a deep well system.

They're measures Cusick says is preventative not reactive.

"It's a big help," Cusick said. "Some of it, if we don't get help, it'll never get done."

As of now, Cusick says the water in town runs fine. He hopes the updates will keep the number of visitors growing and homeowners flowing with pride.

More updates are expected in the fall, according to the town. The updates may disrupt the town's water system for about a week.
