SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- Authorities say a storm that swept through Sussex County on Wednesday night caused three fires that were determined to be the result of lightning strikes.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office said two houses were reported on fire in the 32000 block of Woods Court east of Millsboro. According to the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, which responded to both fires, lightning struck the first house and a propane line. The fire was located in the flooring between the basement and first floor. The second fire on Woods Court occurred in a crawlspace, according to the Indian River VFC.

Investigators determined the fires caused an estimated $15,000 in damage to each home.

A third lightning strike occurred in the 32000 block of Mount Pleasant Road near Laurel, causing an estimated $25,000 in damage.

There were no reported injuries in any of the fires.
