LEWES, Del. - Police suspect a medical condition may have caused a Millsboro man to crash his Jeep into a vacant house Wednesday in the Lewes area.

He was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

According to Delaware State Police, the incident happened shortly after 7 p.m. when a 2018 Jeep Wrangler was traveling west on John J. Williams Highway (SR 24) and crossed the Love Creek Bridge.

After crossing the bridge, police say the operator lost control, and the vehicle crossed over the eastbound lane and left the roadway.

Police say the Jeep crossed through a grass yard and struck an unoccupied residence located in the 20000 block of Williams Highway.

The driver, a 67-year-old man, was properly restrained and transported to the Beebe Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased, according to police.

His name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the accident.
