Felton Motorcyclist Killed in Farm Machinery Collision

Posted: Updated:

VIOLA, Del.- A motorcyclist from Felton was killed after crashing into the back of a piece of farm machinery in Kent County, Del. on Wednesday night.

Delaware State Police say Robert L. McGee, 43, was riding a 2005 Harley Davidson Motorcycle northbound on Turkey Point Road toward Olin Dill Road.

A 1963 Oliver Tractor was pulling a hay binder/cutter and also proceeding northbound on Turkey Point Road, in front of the motorcycle, according to police.

Police say McGee failed to observe the tractor and collided with the rear of the hay binder.  McGee was then ejected from the motorcycle.

McGee was not wearing a helmet, according to police, and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The tractor operator was not injured.

Investigators say the tractor had operational lights and was pulling the hay binder that had two reflective strips and a “slow moving vehicle” reflective triangle.

The roadway was closed for more than three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

The crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
