HARRINGTON, Del. --- Owners of livestock being presented for competitions in the coming days at the Delaware State Fair have their hands full trying to keep cows, horses, and other animals healthy in the stifling heat.

Seth Layfield, whose cows are being presented at the event, said fans and water are a big part of keeping cows healthy during the day.

"If they're too hot, they'll have diarrhea and they won't eat. So you want to keep cool so they keep pushing feed and get filled out for the show," he said.

Competitions are set to begin at the 10-day event in the coming week. An excessive heat advisory was put out by the National Weather Service on Friday.
