Delaware State Police Investigates Middletown Fatal Pedestrian Crash

MIDDLETOWN, Del. - Delaware State Police is investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian in Middletown. 

Just after 1 a.m. on Saturday a BMW was driving on Summit Bridge Road when a pedestrian, a 57-year-old Middletown man was not using a crosswalk, carrying a flashlight or wearing reflective material when he was hit, according to police.

Police say the driver of the BMW, a 20-year-old man, was unable to avoid the crash. 

The unidentified pedestrian was taken to the Chrisiana Hospital Emergency Room where he was pronounced dead, according to police.  His name is being withheld until next of kin has been notified. 

Police say DE 896 northbound was closed for two hours while the crash was being investigated there in Middletown.

The crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
