Updated: Police ID Driver Killed in Smyrna Crash

SMYRNA, Del.- Delaware State Police have released the name of a driver killed in a weekend crash in Smyrna.

Police identified the driver as 40-year-old Tamrell O. Blake of Newark, Del.

According to police, shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday, July 20, Blake was driving a 2012 Buick Verano when it struck the rear of a tractor-trailer that was waiting to make a left turn into the Smyrna Rest Area on southbound Route 13.

The Verano's front end was lodged underneath the tractor-trailer, police said.

Police said Verano, who was properly restrained, was transported to Christiana Hospital with serious injuries. She succumbed to her injuries the next day. 

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 23-year-old man from Levittown, Pa., was properly restrained. He was transported to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.

Southbound Route 13 was closed for approximately two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared. 

The crash remains under investigation by the DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit.
