Millsboro Boat Ramp Closed for Summer

Posted: Updated:
MILLSBORO, Del.- The public boat ramp entrance to Millsboro Pond has been closed for construction. Construction started Monday and is expected to be completed by Nov. 30.
The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, will be reconstructing the boat ramp, adding a new dock and lights to the lot. The parking lot will also be paved to fit more cars. The state is behind the project but the town also thinks the improvements are a good idea.
"Having recreational activities both outdoor and indoor is something the town is really working towards," said Millsboro Town Manager Sheldon Hudson.

But some neighbors are inconvenienced by the timing. The project is predicted to last through summer and into the winter. Millsboro resident Matt Bower says he won't be able to kayak this summer with his girlfriend.
"So I'm glad they're upgrading it, but I had no idea it was closed until November. So it's kind of an inconvenience," Bower said. "I think it's inconvenient for a lot of the people who use it. Like I see the same cars up there, the same groups of people kayak regularly or go out on their boats or whatever. I think they're going to be upset about it."

However, bait shop manager of The Lead Shop in Dagsboro and fisherman Brian Williams thinks this is the perfect time for construction.
"The good fishing actually starts in November up there at the pond throughout the winter and the spring. So during the summer when the pond heats up, the fish is not as good," said Williams.
An alternative location to fish or kayak is Ingrams Pond on the other side of Route 113 from Millsboro Pond. Boats from private docks are still permitted on the pond.
